New Paper Alert: Weight enumeration in United States anti-bullying laws

Check out “Weight enumeration in United States anti-bullying laws: Associations with rates and risks of weight-based bullying among sexual and gender minority adolescents” which has been published in Journal of Public Health Policy!

This study investigated the impact of weight-enumerated anti-bullying laws on health and weight-based bullying among sexual and gender minority adolescents. Findings revealed that weight-based bullying is less frequent among SGM adolescents in states with anti-bullying laws that enumerate weight. These laws were also associated with unhealthy eating behavior, greater stress, and lower perceived health. While these policies may successfully reduce the prevalence of bullying, youth who continue to experience bullying may feel particularly distressed.
