Researcher Spotlight: Kay Simon

Hello! I’m Kay and I am a new postdoctoral research fellow in the SHINE Lab at the University of Connecticut as of summer 2021. I’m really excited to be working with Dr. Ryan Watson and Dr. Lisa Eaton and everyone else in the SHINE Lab!

Prior to joining the SHINE Lab, I was a PhD student at the University of Kentucky in Developmental Psychology with Dr. Rachel Farr in the Families, Adoption, and Diversity (FAD) Lab. At the University of Kentucky, my research focused on the experiences of LGBTQ+ parents and youth and identity development, particularly among LGBTQ+ Asian/Pacific Islander Americans. I’m excited to expand my research program in the SHINE Lab and have a greater emphasis on health and health disparities. Thus far, my research has focused on the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth as well as PrEP use among MSM.

When not working, I can probably be found listening to music or reading a book at a local coffee shop!
